The southern states have been at odds with the north for quite some time now. Trying to come to a peaceful agreement. Looking like there isnt going to be any violance, atleast for quite some time, you continue working your 9-5 knowing you still have to have some means of support.
And all a sudden you get the news the rebels have finally drew arms in the name of southern independence The city you live in is at war in the streets, the road home, THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET THERE has been cut off. Your family is safe, but your caught without any supplies, your work is closed due to saftey issues.
...What Do You Do?

you get the news the rebels have finally drew arms in the name of southern independence AH! I can't believe you just said that........"REBELS" means to take a country you don't own. You mean Southerners (true owners of the land) have finally drew arms etc.... Ok, you have two types of people know.[b/]
Your Rebels you speak of....I will help crash the invaders.
Now to what I think you meant to say.........
This is easy, Since I'm in Military uniform anyways.....I'd walk through the blocked roads to my place.....and start contacting the people I know, and then go from there.

Sounds like an interesting scenario, Michael and sounds like the great start of a book or movie!
By now we'd have to be a bunch of bone heads to not have a 72 hour bug-out-bag in our vehicles or our place of work as well as cache sites between our job site and home. Not just for our day of independence but the possible threat of natural disaster, terrorist strikes, rioting, hazardous materials spills, train derailments or whatever.
But, going along with your scenario, perhaps holding up in a safe spot until darkness settles and then making your way home on foot would be the key.
Since we all live in different cities we're all imagining a scenario based on our area's geography, city streets, bridges, different distances from work places, etc. It might not be easy for one person's scenario to have any relevance to another.
Just because the only road home is closed off doesn't mean a man with survival savvy can't get home to his family and supplies. Drive your vehicle as far as you safely can and then cache it for later retrieval.
If you are on foot and have to make a river crossing you can find a suitable flotation device, pick a good entry point to the river and start kicking!
It might be a good idea to stay off of main roads anyway. Take off cross country. In your own area you should know the lay of the land, the directions of major roads, highways, and waterways plus you know where the sun rises and sets so you shouldn't need a compass to get home.
I would think that any attempt to secure supplies such as firearms along the way might be a good way to get shot in times of chaos. If you have nothing on you, you might want to pretty much keep it that way until you can defend yourself. Water might be the only "must have" thing and thanks be to God it's very easy to obtain in the Southeast with little trouble. For some of you Southerners in West Texas water might be a little more difficult unless you are in a built up area.
I don't know if I'm helping out with this thread or not. I'm anxious to see what everyone else says so I can see if I'm on the right track. It's a fun "make you think" scenario and I'm glad it was presented to us!

And all a sudden you get the news the rebels have finally drew arms in the name of southern independence The city you live in is at war in the streets Michael, just so that we'll know where to go with this scenario maybe you could flesh it out a little for us. Who do the "Rebels" consist of? Do they constitute a majority of the citizens or are they a minority? Do they have the backing of the state or not? Who are they fighting in the streets against? Are they up against local police forces and state National Guard or are they battling federal police forces in their city such as FBI, ATF, DEA, and troops from a local federal military base, etc., or has the federal government deployed federal troops to the city? This information might go a long way towards helping us develope a plan. Create whatever scenario you want and we'll deal with it from there! God Save the South, CornFedReb

my mistake i didnt mean rebel like that....it was 130 in the am... Don't worry about it. You just made a big oop's is all. I'll call off the firing squad this time. LOL Cornfedreb - Wow, your's was better then mine. I'll fit my here then. After thinking about it......I'd stay where I'm at.....in the State Guard. You know, when the States leaves the Union, the Federal Government's Army will come down to the State and take out the State Guard (SG)first, because they are more organized then the average Joe civilian. The National Guard is really the SG. The SG would have to fight the Federal Army without questions. So, more or less I'll stay where I'm at, because the fight will soon come to us. You know the Federal Government is not going to take it laying down. I'll be at Florida's border waiting for the J.B.T.'s to cross it. EDIT: I'll just stay where I'm at......they could come from the Sea....I forgot the darn sea. Put it this way, if the SG is taken out, then I'll run like hell to fine my like mined friends. LOL Just my 2ยข worth. IRONCLAD

when i was talking about rebels, i was refering to the people fighting for a free south, or even a free country. But as ironclad pointed it out, we wouldnt be rebels since the country is ours in the first place. and as far as who we would be fighting...i guess it would be who ever the gov could get to fight against us, and that in its self would be interesting to see. and that is a question that really cant be answerd since no one can really say who would side with who. so i guess as close as i can get to an answer would be whoever is shooting at you

when i was talking about rebels, i was refering to the people fighting for a free south, or even a free country. But as ironclad pointed it out, we wouldnt be rebels since the country is ours in the first place. After Ironclad got on you about using the term "Rebel" I had to go to a couple of my dictionaries to see what we were really talking about here. I mean, didn't our Confederate ancestors call their shout the "Rebel Yell?" And didn't we have a song called "I'm a Good ol' Rebel?" There's probably other examples too but I'm not sure our ancestors were afraid to apply the word to themselves. I generally do not use the word myself to describe my compatriots in our holy cause as it seems to have a negative connotation to it. Anyway, I looked it up to see if it really applies to us in a positive way. Here's what I found: According to "The Random House Dictionary of the English Language" Rebel means -n 1. a person who refuses allegiance to, resists, or rises in arms against the government or ruler of his or her country. 2. a person who resists any authority, control or tradition. - adj. 3. rebellious; defiant. 4. of or pertaining to rebels -v.i. 5. to reject, resist, or rise in arms against one's government or ruler. 6. to resist or rise agianst some authority, control or tradition. In the "Websters New World Dictionary of the American Language" we read: Rebel -n One who openly resists authority -adj. 1. Rebellious 2. of rebels -v.i. rebelled, rebelling 1. to resist authority 2. to feel or show strong aversion. With all of the above in mind I don't think it is wrong to say that we are rebelling against a ruler of our country or that we are resisting authority or control. As I said above, I don't normally use the term as it seems to have a negative connotation but I think in light of the definitions it could appropriately apply. God Save the South, CornFedReb

Their legality would help to determine who would be on their side and what action I could overtly take in assisting them. For example, if the government of my state including its governor and the majority of his cabinet were not part of the "Rebel" force than we really would be rebels in the negative sence. We would be anarchist. We would have no moral authority as representatives of the majority of the state. As we recall from our Southern history, it was the state governments and they alone which had the moral and legal authority to call for their state's secession. Not a mob of hot headed Southern anarchists. Let's take IRONCLAD's situation for example. He is a member of his state's National Guard. If the rebels didn't have the backing of the state government than his guard unit would be called up to quell the insurrection and he would be in a quandry. Is he going to fire on his co-workers and help the rebels take their weapons and equipment or is he going to be forced by his command to stand in formation in the street and fire on his rebel compatriots? If I'm making my way from my work place back to my home where my family and supplies are do I need to avoid the state Guard troops or will they assist me? See what I mean? The scenario makes all the difference in the world. I'm not trying to rain on this thread. It's got me thinking since you posted it! It helps us to plan around our inadequacies and current unpreparedness and you have brought up a very good situation here. I'm already making real world plans and preparations to cover a work-to-home evacuation scenario because of your thread. What do we do if our children are away at school while this happens? What if our spouse is at work when it all goes down? How do we communicate with them? How do we link up and where? Will they have the minimum necessary supplies with them to help them effect an evasion and link up? This scenario will help us find these and other answers. Thanks again! I have lived by the motto "Be prepared" since my days in the Boy Scouts. That philosophy was reinforced by my time in the Rangers, and my studies in outdoor survival and training in related areas.
I carry a small A.L.I.C.E. pack in the trunk of my car at all times. I carry M.R.E.s, clothes, wet weather gear, compass, flashlight, GPS, water proof matches, maps of the surrounding areas, survival knife, poncho, emergency blanket, water purification tablets, small radio, binoculars, web belt w/ canteens, hiking boots, rope, the Ranger handbook, and other odds & ends that I might need for survival on the road. In my case I carry into work, I have several items for protection and survival as well.
Some may think me odd, but I feel that being prepared will more than pay off the effort if it is ever needed.
Now, back to your scenario.
The first thing I would do is listen to the news on the radio to try to determine the situation. Once I had some more intel, I would get out of this building. There are too many exits for security to cover them all, and I have long since memorized the lay out of the building and the multiple routes of egress.
Once out of the building, I would make my way to my car and get my gear. I would make a path for home so I can get to my family, and all the weapons & supplies I have cached there. Once in the door, I can tune into CNN, the radio, and my scanner to see what the situation outside is like and what the threat level to my family is at that point.
If need be, I could hold up in the house for weeks. I have M.R.E.s, a sterno stove, lanterns, candles, and other items needed for survival.
Preferably I would get my family out to the country where my parents live (about 45 miles outside of Richmond). My stepdad and mom are both employees of the Dept of Corrections. They have a ton of guns, are both proficient w/ them, and my stepdad is a survival nut. My family would be safe w/ them.
I would then find a way to join up w/ Confederate forces to fight for our freedom.

GrayGhost, your post kicks major a$$! Well done!
Glad to hear that you (as should all of us) have a vehicle bug-out-bag as well as one for your work place! Excellent! This is where we all need to be right now!
The League of the South touches on the subject of preparedness on their website. Under the subject titled "Starting Your Own League Chapter", section IV Activities, there are a few suggestions that go well with this scenario.
Item #22 states in part, "...Form an 'Emergency Response Team' to help out victims of natural disasters (i.e. fires, floods, tornados, hurricanes, etc.)" I suppose the liberation of our homeland might fall in this category too!
#38 "Develop a phone tree and e-mail list to enchance local communications between officers and members. In cases where the transfer of information is sensitive, establish a secure means of communication."
#40 "Develop emergency rendevous points throughtout the County in case of natural disasters, etc. ...." Again, this applies to the liberation of our Southland!
#41 "Secure detailed topographic maps (including all back roads) of your County to familiarize yourself with the 'lay of the land.' This resource will be invaluable should your Emergency Response Team have to react to a natural disaster." Or secession I might add!
The above information from the League only scratches the surface of the preparations we need to make but they are good advice for Michael's scenario.
Also, for the long term aspects of this scenario item #14 suggests: "As individuals and as a community of Southern Patriots, become as self-sufficient as possible. For instance, form a Farmers' Co-Op to encourage local agriculture; grow your own garden; if possible, raise chickens and keep a cow to provide eggs and dairy products for your family and friends; learn a new and practical skill and acquire the tools to do it. Use your imagination, the possibilities are virtually endless."
And #15 is always important: "Form a 'Shooting Club' to exercise your 2nd Amendment rights and to learn gun safety and proficiency."
All in all, remember this: When the time for action comes, the time for preparation has just ended.

I'll tell Ya' this......If it came down to firing at Compatriots.....Well. I'll be the first one to toss my weapon to the side.
About the "Rebel"...... Yes, it's the rebel yell and some have called them rebels. Most of the people didn't know better......these are the same people who call the war a "civil War"....they just don't know better. Plus, I was just busting balls.
Cornfedreb - your not killing the thread at all.
Alice Pack - I do carry one as well.
LOS - since most of us here think the same way.....I believe you guys should become a member of the League of the South.
Greyghost - how in the world did you get the third national flag to show up. I tried so many time to get that to post. I use that flag on AW and TMO.

My wife found it odd when we first met, but there have been several minor emergencies over the years that proved my forethought was well worth the effort. My friends just accept it as part of my personality. Two of them have actually taken to carrying small packs w/ supplies in their cars for emergencies. Nice quotes from the LoS site. I think that these are things that all Sons of the South should endeavor to do so that when the time comes, we can aid our neighbors, serve our country, and lead by example. Strong leaders will be necessary to restore order and guide those who are not prepared.
