Here's a link to an interesting Survival / Self-Sufficiency site I've been looking at for the last couple of weeks. Has anyone here had any dealings with these folks or heard of them before? www.survival.com/index.htmlI just ordered two of their survival DVDs and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. Once I see them I'll write a review for the board if anyone is interested. If these two DVDs are as great as I hear they are I'll probably get several more. I've been into this foolishness since as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I stayed in the woods. Most of the woods are disappearing today but the fundamental survival skills are just as important as ever. One should refresh their knowledge of these skills through study and practical application every chance they get. Aside from their practical value in an emergency situation, they put you in tune with a part of yourself and your surroundings that the average person does not even know exists. It puts you a cut above the herd and the herd knows it. Every Southerner should be honing these skills for the desperate times ahead. God Save the South, CornFedReb

Thanks for posting this link Cornfed! What a great site. I have a feeling I will be spending a considerable amount of time there over the next few days.
I ordered three of their DVDs myself when I saw what they offer. Great stuff!
I have been into survival since I was a kid. I have always loved hiking in the woods, camping, etc. I used to get into so much trouble as a kid for wandering off into the woods w/ a walking stick and a pocket knife. I would be gone for hours in the forest behind our home and my mother would worry everytime. I joined the Boy Scouts just to have more opportunities to go hiking, camping, exploring caves, mountain climbing, etc.
When I joined the military, I signed on w/ the Rangers. Their courses in Mountaineering, wilderness and swamp navigation and survival were well suited to me. To this day I camp, hike and explore caves every chance I get. I keep a survival pack at home, in the car, and another in my office. I never go anywhere (even in my own back yard) unless I am armed.
The forests and wilder places are disappearing at an alarming rate, but this site and the skills one can gain from this are priceless. Survival is a skill that every Southerner needs, just like our Forefathers, and one that we will soon need again!
