www.mainstreetnews.com/2005/Feb/C0209E.htmlRep. Tommy Benton said this week that he supports a statewide referendum to let voters choose between the current state flag and the 1956-2001 state flag. The Georgia legislature is considering holding a referendum on returning to the former state flag, which contained the Confederate battle emblem. Benton introduced legislation on Tuesday that will allow the Commerce Board of Education to set its own millage rate. He expects this to pass within the next week. Benton can be reached at 18 Capitol Square, 501C Legislative Office Building, Atlanta, GA, 30334; by phone at (404) 656-0182 or by e-mail at thbenton@alltel.net.
Hope all Georgians who read this will write their representative showing that they support a vote on the '56 Georgia flag. It deserves to be hung back where it belongs.
