Anyone ever had the opportunity to read I rode with Stonewall by Henry Kyd Douglas? I happened across my copy at a local used bookstore here in Richmond a few weeks ago. Actually, my son found it and showed it to me. I had never heard of the book before and bought it for a steal of $1.75. The book is in excellent shape except for one small dog ear in the lower right hand corner of the cover.
The book is the experiences of Mr Douglas as the youngest staff officer of our beloved General Jackson throughout the War. I am about 1/2 way through it and it is an excellent read. You get to read about a side to General Jackson that history books seldom touch on, and the difficulties he had w/ his first commanding general and the bureacrats in Richmond in running the war the way it should have been run, by military men, not politicians safe in the capital.
Upon researching the book a bit, it seems my copy is the last printing from 1940. The book is rare according to info on the net, and sells for upwards of $40.00.
If any of you have one or can find one, I would highly suggest it to you.
